The Oxford and District Trades Union Council (ODTUC) are planning or supporting three events for this May Day and the Anniversary of the General Strike.

The 1926 General Strike in the UK was a major industrial action where around 1.7 million workers across key industries, including transport, printing, and mining, stopped work to support coal miners facing wage cuts and longer hours. The strike lasted nine days, causing widespread disruption, and although it ended without achieving its immediate goals, it had a lasting impact on workers’ rights and the labour movement in Britain.
